School Council

CAUSE Campaign -Easter 2017

Our school council promoted this campaign to help a school in Middlesbrough who were helping families in need this Easter.  We collected basic foods and toiletries during Lent and then two representatives of our school delivered them along with Mrs Parnell and Mrs Best.

What is a school council?
A school council is group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve their school.

What does our school council do?
Our school council does a number of things:

  • The school council meets – with Mrs S Parnell and Mrs K Davey – to discuss and sort out any problems. These may include school lunches, behaviour or ideas for fundraising events.
  • Members of the school council will be responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed, such as planning discos, writing newspaper articles, writing letters or carrying out fundraising events.

Here is what out school council has achieved over the last year!

1

This is our board. It can be found in the entrance of our school.

2

Over 40 children entered our badge competition and we raised money to spend on World Gifts for CAFOD.

3

Children entered a competition to design their own silly socks and on the day of our Harvest Festival the children could wear their own silly socks, bring in new socks for the sock stall and buy a pair of their own for 50p or a £1.  This also raised money for CAFOD World Gifts.

Student council chose the following gifts:

Fabulous Football – This encourages children to take part in sport and encourages self esteem and self confidence.

Teach Someone to Read – This trains teachers and buys books for the children and the gift of teaching will allow so many doors to be opened.

Drought-Resistant Crops – This can protect a family from hunger by providing them with different crops that can survive longer without water.

Vegetable Garden – This provides essential skills and equipment people need in order to grow vegetables, needed for a healthy and nutritious diet.

School council came up with the idea to sell bonus ball numbers for two MFC signed posters.  They sold all of the numbers which allowed funds to go towards activities for children in Years 5 and 6 on residential.

We organised our annual ‘Shine Concert’ which all children could enter. It really was a delight to see the vast range of talent in our school.
