Birthdays

Ask your child what is happening in the picture. Explain that the day we are born is called our birthday. Does your child know when their birthday is? Can your child talk about a birthday they have had. What did they do? What did they get? How do they feel waiting for their birthday?

Ask your child to make a birthday card for someone they know. Can they decorate it and write inside who it’s for.

WEEKLY TOPIC TASK

Who lives in the Woodland?

Share the pictures of the animals below Challenge your child to name any familiar animals. Ask ‘Which animals live in the woodland?’ Invite your child to share their thoughts, can they sort the animals into two groups: woodland animals or not woodland animals. Can your child draw and label some of the animals with your support.

 WEEKLY TOPIC TASK

Share the poem below with your child. After reading the poem a few times, encourage your child to join in. As the poem becomes more familiar to your child, ask them to suggest actions that you can all do together. Try out your child’s ideas as you read the poem. Get some leaves from the garden to shake and scrunch and invite your children to add sound effects as you read the poem?

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Introduce the children to the Animal command cards.

Demonstrate the movement on each card for example ‘Jump, rabbits’ means your child should jump two-footed around the space. The command ‘Scurry, mice’ requires your child to dash on their tiptoes. Explain that the command ‘Hibernate, hedgehogs’ means they should curl up tightly into a ball and lay still.
