Children receiving the Silver Award from Sporty Bear.IMG_0125

At St Cuthbert’s RC Primary, we have recently achieved Sainsbury’s School Games Silver Award, we are now aiming to achieve Gold. To achieve the Gold award, we have been participating in intra and inter school tournaments. We are participating in our football league again and are hoping to improve upon last year’s great success. In October we competed in a football tournament in which we came in the top 6 which was a fantastic achievement. Y3 and Y4 children have an upcoming football tournament on April 15th, this is the Lee Stephenson Cup. Last year we competed in the Wilf Mannion cup in which we came 4th out of 36 schools. Our netball team also had a tournament on February 4th, we came 3rd which was fantastic for our first match. Our Y5 children are now helping to coach Y4 in our netball after school club. We also have two upcoming cricket tournaments for our Y5 and Y6 children which will take place in May and June. Both years are very excited for this after we had a cricket match after school on the 7th March, Y6 children took the win but fun was had by all!

As well as sports outside of school, we have plenty of sport and activities happening within school. We have our Change4life club which takes part during school hours and in an after school club, as well as football, netball and dance after school clubs. Some Y6 children have also been practising cheerleading at break times for the Shine Concert. In November we held a Sports Morning in which Stockton Cricket Club visited to help the children learn cricket skills as well as taking part in dance, team games and a sport quiz. As the Sports Morning was a great success we have great ideas for St Cuthbert’s Day and Sports Day to ensure they are as enjoyable. Our children have also had the chance to learn judo skills with Destination Judo and to learn new hula hooping tricks with Hoopstarz, both of which came into the school to involve all of our children in a variety of sports.

Match Reports

The netball tournament was amazing! Even though we had to walk there, but we did so well for our first match! I loved playing centre but we all had to rotate so we had a chance in every position. – Y5 child

The Sports Morning was so much fun, I liked cricket the best but the team games were funny as well. – Y4 child

I loved Destination Judo, I’ve now joined the judo club near me and I won a trophy on my 2nd week! – Y3 child.
